UNIT-2            History of Notation, its usage & Musical Terminology :

i) Basic knowledge of notation.

ii) Detail Knowledge of Vishnudigambar & Bhatkhande Notation System

iii) Writing a Gat/Bandish in Notation with Raga Details

iv) Nad, Sruti, Swar

V) Gamak, Pakad, Alankar

vi) Purbanga , Uttaranga, Murchhana.

Semester-II

THEORY OF MUSIC – II

Unit-I              Analysis of Indian Music in detail :

Study of forms of Indian Music:

i)Dhrupad

iii)Khayal

Advanced Knowledge in Music:

i) Writing a Gat/Bandish in Notation with Raga Details

ii) Knowledge of musical instruments (Avanadhha, Sushir)

iii) Ability to Write Following Taals in Dwigun, Tingun & Chaugun Laykaris: Ektal, Jhaptal, Rupak, Teental , Ada-chautal,Dhamar Jhumra.

Unit-II             Musical Terminologies of Indian Music :

i) Avirbhav , Tirobhav, Jati, Alpatva-Bahutva.

THEORY OF MUSIC—V 

UNIT-1                  Study of Gharanas:-

i) Knowledge of Gharana System: How & why the musical style of any particular family turned into a Gharana.

ii) Characteristic features of Gharana.

iii)History & Development of the Following Gharanas: Agra, Gwalior, Kirana,  Senia, Patiyala, Vishnupur, Betiya, Jaypur-Atrauli, Delhi. 

UNIT-2                Study of forms of Carnatic /South Indian Music:-

i) Development of South Indian Music through its different forms like: Swaravali, Jatiswaram, Swarajati, Geetam, Prabandham, Varnam,  Kirtanam, Padam, Ragamalika.

ii) Life sketch: Pt. Ramamatya, Pt. Byankatmukhi, Tyagaraj, Shyama Shastri.

UNIT-3                Detail Study Of Western Music:-

i) History of Western Music 

ii) Staff Notation : Treble & Bass Clef 

iii)Short Notes: Ledger Line, Natural, Sharp & Flat Pitch, Tone, Dot,  Repetition. 

iv) Short-life sketches of Ludwig Van Beethoven, Franz Peter Schubert. 

UNIT-4

i) Details of World music: European Music, Chinese Music, Arabic Music,  African Music,

                                             Persian Music, Japanese Music.

ii) Jazz Music.

iii) Indian musical Instruments from the Vedic age to the Modern period.

Semester-VI

THEORY OF MUSIC--VI

UNIT-1

i) Brief Note On the following Text:-

 Naradiya Siksha, Sangeet Ratnakar, Sangeet Parijata, Geet-Govindam,   Srikrishna kirtanam.

ii) Mention a few Shlokas(teacher’s choice) with its meaning from the following Original Sanskrit Texts:-         

 Brihaddeshi, Sangeet Ratnakar,  Dattilam.

UNIT-2

i) Details of Folk songs :- Bhatiyali, Bhawaiya, Jhumur, Gambhira

ii) Work Song, Calendric Song, Marriage Song

iii)Folk songs of Tripura: Geographical & Historical background

iv) Tribes of Tripura & their songs. 

UNIT-3            Detail Study Of Western Music:-

i) Brief study of Time signature

ii) Knowledge about Major Tone, Minor Tone, Semi Tone 

iii) Harmony, Melody, Chord 

iv) Knowledge about symbols of Western Note. 

v) Life sketches: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms.

UNIT-4           Musical Acoustics:-

i) Definition & subject matter of Acoustics.

ii) Characteristics & Classification of Sound.

iii) Define Pitch, Frequency, Octave, Tuning Fork, Tone & Note,  Harmonics,  Consonance, Dissonance.               

iv) Musical Mind, Musical Memory, Musical Feeling.
