Tabla is one of the most lovely & essential Subject of SDM.Govt.Music College because it needed to every Musical Subjects i.e. Vocal Classical, Rabindra sangeet, Dance, etc. ' Visharad' Course of Govt Music College started with Tabla & other Subjects under Bhatkhende Vidyapith, Lucknow in 1964. Tabla was introduced in Two years B.Mus.Degree courses in 1977 & Tabla Hons. course was introduced in Three years B.Mus.(Hons) Degree Course in 2004. Tabla was introduced in D.Mus Course in 2010. Tabla Core course was introduced in Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) Six Semester Bachelor Degree Programme in 2014. Now Tabla subject is running simultaneously in both of D.Mus & B.Mus (H) Degree Course.
The Tabla Meistro of Tripura Late Ashwini Biswas was faculty of Tabla dept.of this College. Eminent artists, Guru & personalities come to conduct workshops & Exams. e.g Guru Sri Bimal Roy, Sri Biswajit Bhattacharjee, Tabla dept. Rabindra Bharati University, Prof Swapan Ghosh, Sangit Bhawan, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan etc. Late Pt. Shankar Ghosh also conducted a workshop on Tabla in SDM Govt Music College.
The students of Tabla dept. take part in every programs Organizes by the College, ICA & other Govt / non Govt. Organizations. A large number of pass-out Students of Tabla dept. are established & scattered outside of Tripura. Some of them are famous artists of Tripura & AIR / TV.
